Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about MeterID's utility bill management platform — plus our benchmarking and compliance services.
General
What is MeterID?
MeterID is a utility bill management platform built for commercial property portfolios — bills collected, validated, due dates tracked, and AP-ready output delivered. Engagements are managed end-to-end by our team, and you keep full visibility into every bill, flag, and approval in the platform. For portfolios with benchmarking or compliance requirements, we also offer energy reporting services that plug directly into your bill data.
How much does MeterID cost?
Utility bill management typically runs between $10 and $15 per meter, per month, plus a one-time onboarding fee scoped to your portfolio. Benchmarking and compliance services are quoted separately, typically $500 to $1,500 per property, per filing. Every quote is walked through line by line — see meterid.com/pricing for how the number is built.
How quickly can I get started?
Every engagement starts with a scoped onboarding to map your accounts, utility portals, and AP workflow before we go live. We'll tell you what that looks like for your portfolio on the discovery call.
Do I need to install any software?
No. MeterID is a cloud-based platform accessible from any browser. There's nothing to install or maintain on your end.
Utility Bill Management
What utilities does MeterID support?
We support electric, natural gas, water/sewer, and refuse billing across all major U.S. utilities.
Can MeterID catch billing errors?
Yes. Our platform includes automated validation rules that flag anomalies in cost, usage, rates, and billing periods — helping you catch errors before you pay.
How does MeterID collect utility bills?
We support multiple intake methods: direct PDF upload, email forwarding, and a secure portal repository for tracking bill delivery methods at the account level. We work with whatever process fits your team.
Does MeterID track due dates and payments?
Yes. The platform tracks billing cycles and due dates across all your accounts and alerts your team before bills are due, so late fees get caught before they happen instead of after.
Carbon Emissions & Benchmarking
What if I don't have complete utility data?
We work with incomplete data and help you fill the gaps. We can coordinate with utilities to retrieve historical records and work with whatever data you have available. If your bills are already in MeterID's UBM platform, benchmarking becomes significantly easier since the data is already organized and validated.
How long does the process take?
Timeline depends on your data readiness. Customers with clean, formatted digital data — especially those already managing bills in MeterID's UBM platform — will have a faster, more cost-effective process. Customers with paper bills or incomplete records require more processing time and effort. We provide regular updates throughout.
Do you handle multiple jurisdictions?
Yes. We manage compliance across all major U.S. cities with energy benchmarking and emissions requirements. Reach out to discuss your specific jurisdictions and we'll scope a plan.
What if I miss a deadline?
We provide deadline management and reminders, plus we can help with late submissions and penalty mitigation strategies. Contact us to discuss your compliance calendar.
Can you help with reduction strategies, not just reporting?
Absolutely. Beyond reporting, we provide performance tracking, improvement recommendations, and can connect you with energy efficiency partners. This is a consultative engagement — reach out to discuss what makes sense for your portfolio.
